Recognition Terms, Defined
Clear, plain definitions of the language around entrepreneur recognition, verification, and credibility, so every term means something you can rely on.
The essentials
Entrepreneur recognition
Independent confirmation that someone is a genuine, credible entrepreneur, granted by an outside body rather than self claimed. More on the recognition hub.
Entrepreneur verification
The review process by which an independent body confirms a person is a genuine, legitimate entrepreneur. See how verification works.
Verified entrepreneur
An entrepreneur whose legitimacy has been confirmed through a genuine review and recorded where anyone can check it.
Entrepreneur registry
The confirmable record of every entrepreneur an independent body has verified and recognized. More on the registry page.
International Entrepreneur ID
A credential recognizing an entrepreneur in a form designed to be understood and confirmed across borders.
Entrepreneur certificate
A formal certificate of recognition, backed by a genuine review and a confirmable record.
Confirmable credential
A credential that anyone can independently check, which is what gives it trust. A credential that cannot be checked carries little weight.
Recognition body
An independent organization that reviews and confirms the legitimacy or standing of entrepreneurs.
Terms worth understanding
Credibility
The quality of being believed and trusted. For an entrepreneur, the degree to which others accept you are legitimate and capable.
Authority
Recognized standing as a credible source in a field. It is distinct from expertise, which is skill or knowledge, since being skilled does not automatically make people believe you.
Pay to play
A model where you pay to enter and be genuinely judged. It is legitimate when the fee buys a fair review rather than a guaranteed result.
Pay to win
A model where payment buys the award or badge itself regardless of merit. It is the mark of an empty, non credible honor, and the opposite of genuine recognition.
